About the role

We are seeking a talented Space Communications Engineer to support the development, analysis, and advancement of space-based communication systems. This role focuses on applying communications theory, systems engineering principles, and modeling expertise to analyze and improve current and next-generation satellite communication networks. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with RF communications, satellite systems, and quantitative modeling to support mission analysis, system design, and performance evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and advance quantitative models, algorithms, and simulation frameworks to support mission analysis and enhance space communications capabilities
  • Perform system-level analyses, including:
    • Communications link analysis
    • Network capacity and loading assessments
    • Coverage and performance evaluations
    • Analyses of alternatives (AoA)
  • Design, evaluate, and optimize RF communications architectures for space and ground systems
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to translate mission requirements into technical solutions and analytical models
  • Document methodologies, results, and recommendations in clear technical reports and briefings
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of mission analysis tools and processes
  • Manage and update technical documentation and databases for operational and projected missions and assets

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident

Skills

  • Understanding and work experience with RF modulation techniques, error-correction coding, link budgets, and protocols
  • Experience with satellite communications systems and architectures
  • Knowledge of NASA SCaN (Space Communications and Navigation) networks or similar government/commercial systems
  • Experience with ground systems engineering and operations for satellite communications
  • Experience applying RF communications concepts—such as modulation, coding, link budgets, and protocols—in system modeling, simulation, or performance analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical audiences

Schedule

This is a full-time, on-site position in Greenbelt, MD.
