This is a full-time, non-exempt classified position. The selected candidate must attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program and complete a 12-month probationary period.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, this position directs all back-of-house operations, including ordering food and equipment, scheduling, training, assigning jobs, food preparation, cooking, and reviewing work performances of all production staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct all back-of-house activities.
  • Order food and kitchen equipment.
  • Schedule, train, and assign jobs to production staff.
  • Prepare and cook food, including reading and converting recipes.
  • Review and evaluate work performance of production staff.
  • Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment.
  • Manage high-volume food production.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of all types of cooking methods and kitchen equipment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Experience with high-volume food production.
  • Exposure to temperature extremes, slippery floors, and congested work areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds, push/pull, stand, bend, walk, climb, and perform repetitive motions.

Qualifications

  • Certification in ServSafe or an equivalent food handler program (preferred).
  • Degree in Culinary Arts, food service management, hospitality, or equivalent field (preferred).
  • Experience directing an entire staff of cooks, prep cooks, and salad/dessert production (preferred).
  • Experience working in a university or college setting (preferred).

Physical & Cognitive Demands

  • Physical: Light, moderate, and heavy lifting (up to 50+ lbs); pushing/pulling; standing; bending; walking; climbing; reaching; repetitive motion.
  • Environmental: Exposure to temperature extremes, dangerous equipment, slippery footing, and congested work areas.
  • Cognitive: Fast-paced, multiple priorities, intense customer interaction, memory, reasoning, reading, analyzing, logic, verbal and written communication.

Pay

$42,560 to $53,200, commensurate with education and experience.
