About The Team

The fab2 production team manufactures chip fabs, including deposition, etching, lithography, and metrology tools. Every tool is built in-house, from fabricating metal parts to operating SMT lines for PCBAs and assembling the final tools.

About The Role

As a Sourcing & Planning Manager at fab2, you will own the supply base for manufacturing semiconductor fabs. Your work will span supplier negotiation, MRP execution, and shortage recovery across hardware, electronics, and raw materials. You’ll collaborate with production and engineering to source suppliers, drive design for manufacturability, and ensure material availability to prevent build stoppages.

Responsibilities

• Own material planning for high-mix assemblies under rapid design iteration, balancing obsolescence risk with supply continuity.
• Preserve R&D’s flexibility to source creatively while introducing rigor and supply continuity as production scales.
• Act as the creative tension in the push toward zero vendors by running make-versus-buy analyses, determining fair part costs, and deciding when external sourcing outperforms in-house capabilities.
• Evaluate suppliers in person by visiting their facilities, assessing their capabilities, and forming independent judgments.
• Identify single-sourced parts and qualify second sources where risk is unacceptable.
• Purchase long-lead materials ahead of design release and execute last-time buys before end-of-life.
• Set stocking policies and manage resulting excess or obsolescence.
• Own purchase orders: confirm dates, expedite late lines, and manage inbound freight, customs, and tariff exposure.
• Ensure production work centers are always clear-to-build on time.
• Represent sourcing in the development of in-house manufacturing software by drafting specifications and prototyping tools.
• Introduce design changes to the production line in a disciplined manner, ensuring new revisions integrate cleanly with existing configurations.
• Score suppliers on delivery, quality, and cost over time.
• Interpret contract terms, including fiscal and legal implications, and collaborate with Business Operations to mitigate company risk.
• Support compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations in all sourcing and supplier engagement activities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or material planning for physical products.
• MRP execution in a production ERP, including demand planning, PO placement, and shortage recovery.
• Supplier negotiation and should-cost analysis.
• Sourcing experience across machined parts, electronics, and raw materials.
• Material planning under rapid design change, including revision cut-ins and obsolescence management.

Nice-to-have

• Experience ramping new products into high-volume production.
• Familiarity with SQL, Go, Postgres, TypeScript/React, or REST APIs.
• Familiarity with U.S. export control regulations (EAR/ITAR).
