Sourcing Category Manager - IT Category Management

About the role
The Sourcing Category Manager will lead IT Category Management for indirect spend categories including Software (Enterprise, End User, Security, CRM, MarTech), Infrastructure (Data Center, Network, Servers, Laptops/PC, Telephony, CCaaS), Cloud (Public, Private, Multi, Hybrid, SaaS), and Healthcare Platform/VAR (Medical Records Software, Digital Payer, Revenue Payment Cycle Management, Claims/adjudication, Value Added Reseller (VAR) Management, Technology Supplier Catalog Management).
This role defines and executes sourcing strategies that drive P&L value, develops relationships with business leaders and stakeholders, and leverages spend analytics, market intelligence, and vendor agreements to build a pipeline of sourcing opportunities. The Indirect Strategic Sourcing team manages over $12B in annual indirect spend across IT and non-IT categories supporting key business units (Retail, PBM, Insurance, Specialty/Clinical, etc.).
This critical role reports to a Lead Director within the Indirect Strategic Sourcing team and may require up to 15% travel for supplier presentations, site visits, and key meetings. The position is hybrid, based in Woonsocket, RI; Hartford, CT; Northbrook, IL; or Scottsdale, AZ, with in-office requirements of 2 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain short, medium, and long-term category sourcing plans, spend profiles, and pipeline.
- Schedule and lead regularly scheduled sourcing category reviews and planning sessions with key business leaders; establish expertise in the assigned category.
- Guide analysts on sourcing activities to ensure successful execution of RFx events for the category.
- Quantify and deliver against savings targets for the category.
- Serve as execution lead on major sourcing events with high complexity, spend, and/or visibility.
- Educate business partners on Strategic Sourcing policies and processes; communicate and demonstrate the team’s value proposition.
- Maintain status of all completed, active, and planned sourcing activities for review with Strategic Sourcing management.
- Effectively communicate Strategic Sourcing’s value proposition and goals to key leaders and stakeholders.
- Leverage spend analytics, market intelligence, and expiring contracts reporting to continuously build a pipeline of sourcing opportunities.
- Maintain strong working relationships with CVS Health’s business and vendor management teams, ensuring early engagement on prospective vendor-supported initiatives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop bid strategies and create effective scope of work documents for competitive bid processes.
- Develop processes to ensure business stakeholders utilize preferred suppliers, leveraging enterprise scale for greater value.
- Work with CVS Health’s contracting team to identify new and creative contracting approaches with vendor partners.
- Represent procurement on large-scale strategic enterprise initiatives and special projects (e.g., sourcing process transformation, acquisition integration).
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience in Sourcing & Category Management, Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Analytics, Project Management, Technology, or Management Consulting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business, Economics, Supply-Chain, Finance, Accounting, Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- MBA or Master’s Degree in a related field is a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 15% for supplier presentations, site visits, and key department meetings.
Pay
The typical pay range for this role is $75,400 – $182,549 annually. The actual base salary offer will depend on factors including experience, education, geography, and other relevant considerations. This position is also eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program, as well as an award target in the company’s equity award program.
