About the role

GreenWaste is seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Sorter to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 653 Charles St. in San Jose and limited job-related travel may be required. The Sorter provides support to one or more facilities by sorting a variety of materials ranging from recyclables to trash to minimize contamination and maintain high recyclable rates.

Responsibilities

• Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures to ensure safety.
• Extract at least 48 items per minute to maximize recycling potential.
• Follow directions, daily procedures, and protocols.
• Work near others while sorting material from either side of the conveyor belt to increase productivity.
• Stand and collect material for extended periods in front of a conveyor belt, using both hands with good manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.

Requirements

• Ability to distinguish between commodities with ease to separate material properly.
• Reliable transportation, punctuality, and dependability to minimize disruptions to day-to-day operations.
• Ability to work as a team and collaborate well with others.
• Proficiency in English and/or Spanish.

Physical Demands

• Handle material weighing up to 50 lbs. to prevent sort line pile-ups.
• Constant pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and grasping of material to prevent it from ending up in the wrong commodity container.
• Go up and down stairs to reach certain workstations.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced environment with exposure to loud noises, heat, cold, sharp objects, and odors.
• Mandatory use of hard hat, safety glasses, work boots, safety vests, and gloves at all times.

Schedule

Work shifts vary. Regular workday may range from 4-12 hours depending on daily tonnage. Working overtime is required.

Pay

$22.50 to $25.00 per hour.
