Job Summary

About the Role

The Imaging Services Director and Chief of Radiology/ Imaging Services, or other Clinical Service Director where applicable, directs the production of two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by Physicians in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs. This role also involves technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibiting a high degree of tact, courtesy, and poise, explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Prepares and positions patients for examinations.
  • Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination.
  • Selects transducers and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test.
  • Starts equipment that produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film.
  • Moves transducers, by hand, over specified areas of the body and observes sound wave display screens to monitor quality of ultrasonic patterns produced.
  • Photographs images of organs shown on display modules or removes strip printouts from equipment to obtain permanent records of internal examinations.
  • Keys test data and patient information into ultrasound equipment to maintain records of test results.
  • Orients new hires.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Must have equivalent of three (3) years of continuous ultrasound experience within the last six (6) years with no more than one (1) year break in experience within the last four (4) years.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: Must have one of the following certificates from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers:
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen
    • Diagnostic Med Sonographer Pediatric Sonography Certification
    • Diagnostic Med Sonographer Fetal Echocardiography Certification
    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate
    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatric Echocardiogram Certificate
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Breast
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate
    • Registered Vascular Technologist Certificate
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: Equivalent of three (3) years of continuous ultrasound experience within the last six (6) years with no more than one (1) year break in experience within the last four (4) years.
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: Must have one of the following certificates from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
