Sonographer I - LGH/Full Time Nights

About the role

Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Responsibilities

• Takes the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy.
• Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
• Contacts the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied.
• Utilizes advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations).
• Produces, assesses, and evaluates ultrasound images and related data.
• Exercises independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams and provides a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician.
• Assess patients appropriately for the procedures ordered prior to, during, and after treatment according to Imaging Services/Departmental Guidelines.
• Participates in the training of students and staff as assigned.
• Create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Prepare patients, collect relevant information for completion of procedures, and perform sonographic exams following defined protocols.
• Be observant of patients’ conditions and notify the physician of unusual occurrences.
• Compile appropriate records to expedite results.
• Analyze the quality of images and processes as required.
• Completes data sheet containing pertinent patient information following exam prior to forwarding to radiologist or Cardiologist.
• Using the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) process explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during exams.
• Follows department specific standard work and departmental policies.
• P practices aseptic techniques and good infection control procedures consistent with hospital policy.
• Secures and returns supplies and maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the work areas between each patient.

Qualifications

• Required Education: Associated Degree or completion of a Certification Program in Ultrasonography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Radiology upon hire of an accredited sonography program and/or ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN), vascular technology (RVT) or Cardiac echo (RDCS).
• Required Certifications and Licensures: Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or RDCS by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 year of employment. Cardiopulmonary Respiration (CPR) Certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
