Solutions Architect - IoT
Skylo has pioneered a standards-based approach to satellite connectivity, connecting smartphones and IoT devices directly to satellites without special hardware or new networks. Our direct-to-device service is live on millions of activated devices across five continents, covering over 72 million square kilometers. At the heart of this is Skylo's commercial NTN vRAN: a 3GPP standards-based, cloud-native platform bridging terrestrial and satellite networks. This role is based in Mountain View, CA, with an onsite requirement of 3 days per week.
About The Role
Skylo is building a developer and device ecosystem to make NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) connectivity practical to adopt. We are hiring a hands-on Senior IoT Solutions Engineer to drive chipset and module enablement, firmware support, reference designs, and first-run developer journeys into a reliable product capability. You will guide external developers from unboxing to a validated NB-IoT NTN attach and data session without continuous engineering assistance.
Responsibilities
- Lead application-engineering support for high-priority customers and partners using Skylo SDKs, APIs, sample applications, and device-to-cloud integrations.
- Troubleshoot embedded devices and cellular modules at firmware and hardware boundaries, including RTOS behavior, AT commands, PLMN selection, registration, attach, and data failures.
- Build and maintain high-quality reference implementations, quick-start guides, sample code, and technical integration patterns.
- Architect the self-service OEM and developer trial journey, systematically eliminating friction from documentation and product workflows.
- Partner directly with chipset and module vendors on technical enablement, firmware readiness, certification issues, and reference designs.
- Isolate field failures using traces, device logs, attach data, and lab tooling to advocate for product fixes with Product and Core Engineering teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in IoT solutions engineering, embedded systems, field applications engineering, or a highly technical customer-facing engineering role.
- Strong hands-on C/C++ embedded development skills, RTOS experience, module bring-up, and cellular AT-command interfaces.
- Solid cellular IoT knowledge, including network registration, attach sequences, SIM/eSIM profiles, PLMN selection, and packet data.
- Demonstrated ability to build full-stack examples utilizing REST APIs, SDKs, and a major IoT cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Excellent debugging discipline and communication skills to collaborate with firmware engineers and vendor product teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- NB-IoT NTN, satellite IoT, 3GPP standards, or roaming experience.
- Practical familiarity with Wireshark, signaling analytics, BigQuery, or developer portals.
- A proven track record of creating developer documentation that materially reduces incoming support tickets.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation packages including a stock option-based equity program.
- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
- Monthly allowances for wellness and education reimbursement.
- A generous time-off policy, holidays, and the opportunity to temporarily work abroad.
- Access to a world-class team across software, hardware, chipsets, telecom, satellite, and network virtualization.
- Open, transparent, inclusive culture blending Silicon Valley, Nordic, and South Asia characteristics.
Pay
The estimated base salary range for this role is:
- San Francisco, CA: $155,000 — $165,000
- Other US Locations: $135,000 — $145,000
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant training. In addition to base salary, Skylo offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and equity options.
