About the role
The Solutions Architect and the Principal Solutions Architect leads systems development, optimization, and improvement initiatives with leadership and partners either within the department or with teams across the organization and collaborate to propose, design, and execute innovative solutions that make achieving the organization’s strategic vision possible through tactical architectural guidance, technical build, and determining/setting technical standards in collaboration with assigned project teams.
Through a respectful and constructive style guided by the values of the company, the Solutions Architect and Principal Solutions Architect provide support to:
- Ensure that OCHIN has the integrated technology in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and improve operating efficiency,
- Provide hands-on technical expertise to solve internal integration needs, and
- Assist with technical escalations as needed for both the Epic EMR and internal tools.
Please note: This position is funded through a contract. Continued employment is contingent upon contract renewal or extension, and organizational needs.
Essential Duties
Act as a consultant and mentor to the PTP team given responsibility for defining OCHIN’s PTP integration strategies, processes, design, tools, and technical support.
Act as a liaison between the PTP team and other technical teams to ensure cross-functionality and efficient development of new and enhanced PTP solutions.
Design and develop complex integrations as well as multi-level architecture to ensure long-term supportability of existing and future solutions.
Ensure the long-term success and scalability of new and existing PTPs by incorporating best practices and automations across the PTP portfolio of products.
Provide hands-on technical expertise to solve for both internal and external integration needs as well as solution upgrades and technical escalations, as needed, to support the team, Epic EMR, members, and vendors.
Scope, create, and document architectural designs with OCHIN technical teams and vendor and proactively review, revise, and enhance existing solutions to optimize our design.

Non-Essential Functions
Conforms to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Remain focused in the face of pressure, delivers against timelines, not intimidated by tasks/time limitations. Participates in scoping sessions with vendors and members on new requests. Assist OCHIN leadership in architecting application solutions for the organization. Deep understanding of OCHIN systems and proactively creates plans to adapt the system to meet changes in executive focus, member needs or industry changes. Balance security needs with the organization’s strategic business plan, identify risk factors, and determine solutions. Follows policies and procedures with regard to documentation and change management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (Healthcare Informatics or Computer Science, preferred) or a combination of college education plus seven or more (7+) years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 7 years of healthcare IT experience with at least 4 years of experience in building integrations between external systems/applications with Epic and serving as Level 3 (final level) support including problem solving across technical and customer facing teams
- Two (2) or more Epic certifications/proficiencies preferred
- Strong knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR
- Strong analytical, technical, and troubleshooting skills combined with an innovative mindset proficient in identifying, prioritizing, and building opportunities for enhancements
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Constant interpersonal skills, teamwork, and customer service. Frequent creativity, mentoring, presentations/teaching. Occasional decision making and independent judgment or action. Reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. This position requires a virtual home-office environment, working remotely. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and mobile devices.
Work Location and Travel Requirements
OCHIN is a 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location. Employees work remotely from home and many of our positions also support our member organizations on-site for new software installations. Nationwide travel is determined based on OCHIN business needs. Please inquire during the interview process about travel requirements for this position.
