Solution-Level Software System Engineer
About the role
i3 is seeking a Solution-Level Software System Engineer to support the PAE Fires Integrated Fires Mission Command (IFMC) Project Office. This role involves working with contractors, US military, government civilians, and system operators to develop system-level concepts that address complex problems involving various systems from multiple product offices. The candidate will work on prioritizing capabilities within Program Increments (PIs), collaborating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand project scopes, and developing concepts using a Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach.
Responsibilities
- Develop system-level concepts and solutions for complex problems.
- Work with contractors, military personnel, and government civilians.
- Collaborate with SMEs to understand project scopes.
- Develop concepts using a Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach.
- Assemble artifacts and information into Solutions Initiative Documents (SIDs) and Solutions Engineering Documents (SEDs).
- Create/modify existing behavior in models using the MagicDraw MBSE tool.
- Define acceptance criteria for capabilities and trace them to model behavior.
- Determine which Capabilities Description Documents (CDDs) and System Specifications requirements are satisfied by a capability and establish those links in the model.
- Recommend follow-up feature tickets for implementation at the program level.
- Facilitate and lead internal and formal reviews of initiatives/capabilities.
- Adjudicate review comments and transition recommended Capabilities/Features to the backlog by drafting them in Jira.
- Participate in regular team stand-ups, planning sessions, retrospectives, and prioritizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- An active Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain one.
- A bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
- At least 10 years of system engineering or related experience.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Proficiency in MagicDraw.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office toolset.
- Experience with Jira and Confluence.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively interface with various levels of workers/leaders.
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Experience
- A master's degree in systems engineering.
- Previous experience with Army Air and Missile Defense Command and Control systems, such as IBCS, Patriot, FAAD C2, and ADAM.
- Experience integrating command and control systems in a System of Systems architecture.

Regular Hours
Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, with occasional additional hours required. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
