Solid Waste Collection Technician II

About the role

Performs a variety of work related to solid waste management. Conducts field assessments and investigations and prepares incident reports accordingly. Performs physical labor in the special collection of bags of garbage, bulky items, construction debris, furniture, appliances, and brush piles illegally disposed within the exterior boundaries of the Yakama Nation Reservation as well as areas of interest. Utilizes a variety of equipment in the clean-up of illegal dump sites and daily operations of solid waste management.

Responsibilities

• Develops detailed site maps that contain text and graphics to catalog illegal dump sites.
• Performs waste screening and assessments at illegal dumpsites.
• Develops clean up and closure options for illegal dump sites.
• Collects garbage and other illegal disposed items at identified dumpsites.
• Loads and secures illegally dumped debris for transfer and disposal at local disposal facilities.
• Maintains daily activity reports.
• Prepares and submits monthly activity reports on solid waste collection, assessments, incidents, and other solid waste related issues.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of written records and reports.

Requirements

• Two years of solid waste program experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the work.
• Two years of additional related experience in any of the following: environmental or natural science, education, safety, or health is preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Hazardous waste certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
• Absorb asbestos certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.
• Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
