Solid Waste Collection Driver
About the role
This position operates one or more types of solid waste collection vehicles, including rear-end loading refuse trucks, front-end loading refuse trucks, automated side-loading refuse trucks, grappler trucks, container delivery trucks, pick-up trucks, and lawn maintenance equipment. The incumbent is responsible for the operation of these vehicles and performs manual labor tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Operates assigned vehicles, including but not limited to: rear-end loading refuse trucks, front-end loading refuse trucks, automated side-loading refuse trucks, grappler trucks, container delivery trucks, pick-up trucks, and lawn maintenance equipment.
- Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
- Carries out manual labor tasks as directed, such as debris clean-up and collection.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must possess a valid Florida Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is required within one year of employment.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or a GED from a properly accredited institution of learning.
- Three (3) years of experience in the operation of commercial vehicles requiring a Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- One (1) year of experience in the operation of medium and heavy-duty refuse collection equipment or internal training completion and operation of city refuse collection equipment as temporary staffing.
Skills
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of solid waste collection and delivery equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and work independently in the performance of regular duties.
- Ability to read, understand, and implement instructions.
- Ability to maintain detailed, written records.
- Ability to use City radio, routing maps, shovels, rakes, and brooms.
