About the role

We are seeking Solar Installers to join our Field Crew in Champaign, Illinois. The Solar Installer is responsible for the proper installation of Harvest Solar Systems while representing the Harvest Solar brand. The ideal candidate is ambitious, motivated, capable of working with a team, and able to follow directions closely. Work is performed outdoors in a commercial construction setting 95–100% of the time, with overnight travel required for periods of 3 to 5 days (primarily Monday through Friday). Hotel, transportation, and a $65.00 food per diem are provided for overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent attendance to ensure customer satisfaction and uphold Harvest’s reputation.
  • Represent Harvest Solar professionally through dress, conduct, and behavior on-site or with customers.
  • Follow all instructions to complete operations safely, productively, and with high quality.
  • Collaborate with other installers and electricians to ensure product quality.
  • Actively participate in safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Follow instructions from construction project managers and crew leaders.
  • Construct or dismantle scaffolding, bracing, and other temporary structures.
  • Dig trenches and backfill holes to prepare construction sites.
  • Access and work on roofs, including climbing and descending ladders, using proper safety equipment.
  • Operate equipment and machinery used in construction sites.
  • Load and unload building materials.
  • Clean the construction site by removing hazardous materials and debris.
  • Assist craft workers such as carpenters or electricians as needed.
  • Lay out jobsites, operate equipment to bore holes or drive posts, pour concrete, fasten and level racking, mount solar panels, run wiring, and test array output.
  • Perform routine maintenance on company-owned equipment as directed.
  • Report safety incidents to supervisors and complete required accident reports.
  • Stop work and report concerns about unsafe equipment, processes, or quality issues to project managers or crew leaders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid, non-suspended driver’s license with the ability and interest to obtain CDL certification.
  • Experience accessing and working on roofs, comfort working at heights, and ability to work on sloped surfaces.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and follow directions closely.

Pay

Hourly pay starts at $21.00, with overtime paid at time-and-a-half after 8 hours in a day (Monday through Sunday).

    • Paid vacation accrued at 1.5384 hours per week (80 hours per calendar year). Unused vacation can be paid out or up to 40 hours rolled over at year-end.
  • The first of the month after hire:
    • Health Insurance: 80% of premiums covered by Harvest Solar, 20% by the employee via payroll deduction.
      • Option 1: Priority Health POS HSA Plan
        • In-network care with Cigna providers.
        • Preventive care covered 100% in-network.
        • HSA-compatible; Harvest Solar contributes weekly to your HSA based on coverage:
          • Associate: $10.64
          • Associate & Spouse: $27.25
          • Associate & Child(ren): $21.65
          • Family: $37.55
      • Option 2: Priority Health POS Traditional Plan
        • In-network care with Cigna providers.
        • Preventive care covered 100% in-network.
        • Not HSA-compatible.
    • Dental Insurance: 80% of premiums covered by Harvest Solar, 20% by the employee.
    • Vision Insurance: 80% of premiums covered by Harvest Solar, 20% by the employee.
    • Group Life Insurance: $50,000 coverage with an Accidental Death clause (premiums fully covered by Harvest Solar).
    • Group Short-Term Disability: 60% of earnings (up to $1,000 weekly maximum) after a seven-day waiting period (premiums fully covered by Harvest Solar).
    • Voluntary Supplemental Programs: Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity plans available at the employee’s expense through Allstate (premiums paid via payroll deduction).
  • At 90 days of employment:
    • 40 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) available annually on January 1 for personal appointments. PTO does not roll over or payout; unused hours are forfeited. First-year PTO is prorated based on hire date.
  • The first of the month after 90 days of employment:
    • 401k Plan: Auto-enrollment at 3% deferral rate (invested in a “Retire-On-Time” plan). Administered by Vestwell.
      • Company match: 3% for 3% deferral, 3.5% for 4% deferral, 4% for 5% deferral.
      • Options to change deferral rate (up to IRS limits), account type (pre-tax or Roth), or investment type (standard or customized plans).
