Soils Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform specific tasks associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of senior technicians and other lab staff.
• Carry out routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance.
• Aid in tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives to maintain accreditation compliance.
• Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment as needed.
• Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and begin learning how to visually classify soils.
• Perform calculations and data reduction based on test results; document results accurately.
• May perform administrative duties as requested.

Requirements

• No prior experience required, as you'll work under the guidance of experienced professionals to learn to safely perform a variety of tasks in our concrete and soils laboratories.
• Must be willing to obtain and maintain laboratory certifications for soils.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Must have valid driver's license and insurance.
• Willing to obtain knowledge of CMT laboratory equipment, testing methods, and ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, or both.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.

Qualifications

• No experience required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Military qualifications: E-4 ECS Group of Companies (ECS) ranks will qualify for this position if they also meet the education and licenses requirements from the above section titled "Required Qualifications."
