Software Validation Test Lead

About the role

Raytheon, part of RTX, is seeking a Software Validation Test Lead for the Patriot Software Team in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. This is an onsite position requiring U.S. citizenship and an active/interim Secret U.S. government security clearance. You will lead testing initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate with developers, architects, and product leads to ensure software meets customer requirements for the Patriot air defense system.

Responsibilities

• Lead test efforts for a functional area, ensuring quality and efficiency.
• Create comprehensive test plans outlining strategies, objectives, and timelines.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing expertise and fostering continuous learning.
• Collaborate across teams with developers, system architects, and cross-functional partners for seamless software integration.
• Provide regular status updates on progress, issues, and risks to stakeholders and leadership.
• Review software requirements for clarity, completeness, and testability.
• Write clear and concise test objectives to guide testing and ensure thorough coverage.
• Design and execute test cases (manual and automated) rigorously in the on‑site lab.
• Analyze test results, identify discrepancies, and provide documentation and recommendations for improvement.
• Conduct occasional off‑hours testing during second or third shifts as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 8 years of experience.
• Proven leadership experience in a testing environment, including creating effective test plans, providing meaningful status updates, and guiding technical teams.
• Extensive experience in software engineering, validation, verification, requirements analysis, and/or testing.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an interim Secret U.S. security clearance prior to start date.
• U.S. citizenship is required (only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance).

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret security clearance.
• Familiarity with Patriot software and Patriot‑specific processes and tools.
• Knowledge of software testing methodologies (functional, integration, regression, performance, etc.) and best practices.
• Demonstrated expertise in creating detailed test plans and leading test efforts for complex projects.
• Proficiency with bug tracking and test management tools.
• Proficiency with DOORS or similar requirements traceability tools.
• Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills to diagnose and address technical issues effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead, mentor, and report to diverse audiences.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
