Software Test Engineer

About the role

Software Test Engineer with Lab Experience in the Life Sciences domain, based in San Diego, CA (onsite in the lab, 5 days per week). This is a C2C contract position.

Responsibilities

• Work on Next Generation Sequencing platform software or similar instrument/embedded systems.
• Perform testing of instrument/embedded systems software.
• Be present in the lab five days a week to work directly with the instruments.
• Design effective and efficient test cases covering various scenarios and edge cases.
• Manage test data and create requirements, specifications, test cases, RTM, and test summary reports using test management tools (e.g., Jama/HPALM).
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders.

Requirements / Skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Groovy, or Python.
• Proficiency in Linux shell scripting.
• Knowledge of popular test automation frameworks, particularly Playwright + TypeScript.
• Understanding of web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
• Familiarity with API testing and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and experience with Jenkins.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for troubleshooting failures and debugging automation scripts.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile teams.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
