Software Test Engineer

About the role

CTG is seeking a Software Test Engineer to support a mission-critical Identity & Access Management (IAM) program serving U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement quality assurance strategies, testing methodologies, and automation practices.
• Establish and promote standards for software development lifecycles, testing practices, documentation, and maintenance activities.
• Design, execute, and maintain manual and automated test strategies across multiple applications and services.
• Identify, document, triage, and track software defects through resolution.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and DevOps teams to ensure quality is integrated throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Evaluate software quality tools, testing frameworks, and industry best practices, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Support testing efforts across multiple Agile delivery teams and coordinate cross-team testing dependencies.
• Validate application functionality, performance, reliability, and security requirements.
• Contribute to CI/CD testing practices and help ensure code is validated in non-production environments prior to release.
• Support user acceptance testing (UAT), release validation, and production deployment activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance, testing, or quality engineering roles
• Experience developing and implementing quality assurance methodologies, testing strategies, and quality standards
• Experience performing code reviews and product reviews throughout the software development lifecycle
• Experience creating, executing, and maintaining automated and manual test plans and test cases
• Experience identifying, documenting, prioritizing, and tracking software defects
• Experience supporting Agile software development teams
• Experience testing web applications, APIs, and enterprise software systems
• Familiarity with Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, REST APIs, and modern web application architectures
• Experience with testing and quality tools such as Selenium, Cypress, SonarQube, Checkmarx, JMeter, Cucumber, or similar technologies
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
