Software Systems Engineer, Senior (BMS Safety)

About the role

BCI seeks a full-time Senior Systems Software (Safety) Engineer to support the Battle Management System Safety Program. The role is based in Dahlgren, VA with minimal telework, immediate start, and a flexible schedule that may require extended hours for special events such as program reviews or testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical, operational, and engineering support to the systems and software engineering team for safety risk analyses and assessments.
• Participate in and lead engineering and safety reviews.
• Conduct risk assessment studies and analyses with emphasis on software risk.
• Prepare reports and briefs and present materials to formal boards including the Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB).
• Perform analyses of System Safety Plans, Safety Management Plans, and assess hardware and software changes/issues affecting system safety.
• Analyze safety test documentation and plans.
• Review, identify, and translate technical details into clear safety risk communications via Technical Data Packages and Hazard Records.
• Function as part of and provide leadership to a collaborative team of safety engineers.
• Research, design, develop, and test software used in DoD weapon systems.
• Utilize state-of-the-art model‑based tools to interpret and assess design requirements for weapons safety.
• Develop and maintain current knowledge of Navy and Joint ordnance, combat, and weapon systems.
• Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical techniques to assess user needs and establish rigorous requirements.
• Analyze engineering artifacts associated with system design and development.
• Travel regionally and infrequently as required to support tasking.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a security investigation to access classified information.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering applied to program development, modeling and simulation.
