Software System Safety Engineer III

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Interested in improving the safety of rockets, ground systems, and space destinations? This role will mentor engineers in developing safety critical software to avoid hazards. You will train engineers, review software processes, perform safety analysis and identify requirements, audit program compliance to safety objectives, perform risk characterization of open problems, and champion safety. Responsibilities

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.Sc. degree in aerospace engineering or related field
• 5+ years software engineering experience developing embedded software in a safety industry, with 2+ of those years performing compliance audits OR developing plans to one or more standards (e.g. NASA-STD-8739.8A, FAA Part 450.141, MIL-STD-882, RCC 319-19, IEC 61508, RTCA DO-178C, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, etc.)
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently on rapid development programs
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Skills

• Experience assessing compliance to regulatory requirements
• Experience with object-oriented software development, model-based engineering, and/or formal methods
• Experience with the STPA safety process

Pay

Base Pay Range for WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.

• Blue’s Standard Background Check (required for all positions)
• Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check (required for certain job profiles if the role requires access to a military installation)
• Additional requirements for drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification, Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable), and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training
• Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical (required for certain job profiles)
