Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file original patent applications for software inventions, including detailed specifications, figures guidance, and well-structured claim sets
- Lead prosecution strategy through office-action responses, claim amendments, examiner interviews, and continuation planning
- Distill complex systems into clear, persuasive disclosures that support broad yet defensible protection
- Work directly with engineers, product teams, founders, and in-house counsel to identify invention value and capture it efficiently
- Perform patentability assessments and targeted prior art review to inform go/no-go filing decisions and claim direction
- Keep matters on track across multiple deadlines with strong attention to docket management and client responsiveness
- Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing, templates, and process improvements that increase consistency and quality
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active attorney license in good standing
- USPTO registration
- At least 5 years of experience preparing and prosecuting software-related patents in a law firm setting
- Experience with drafting patents at volume (100+ drafted from scratch)
- Demonstrated strength in claim drafting, office-action advocacy, and examiner interaction
- Ability to communicate with technical stakeholders and translate engineering concepts into patent-ready language
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing a steady workflow with minimal oversight
Preferred Experience
- Technical exposure to AI/ML, SaaS, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, networking, databases, or similar software domains
- Experience advising on portfolio development, continuation strategy, and product-aligned filing programs
- Familiarity supporting post-grant proceedings or providing validity-focused analysis (as needed)
