Software Engineering Technical Leader - Hardware Diagnostic Engineer
About the role
This role is within the Cisco Common Hardware Group (CHG), a team dedicated to creating innovative hardware platforms that power Cisco’s core Switching, Routing, and Wireless products. The CHG focuses on silicon, optics, and hardware platforms like Silicon One, which are shaping the technology industry.
Responsibilities
- Develop diagnostics test suites for Cisco switches on Linux servers using C/C++ and/or Python.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams including ASIC team, hardware team, vendors, and manufacturers to address complex hardware issues.
- Work on new hardware system bring-up and develop Board Support Packages (BSP) for ASICs.
- Support the manufacturing test team for failure analysis to enhance product yield and reduce test times.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 8+ years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 6+ years of professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience developing software within a Linux environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware-level programming and device driver development.
- Demonstrated expertise in Linux hardware bring-up and system integration.
- Proven experience working with microcontrollers and embedded peripherals such as I2C, PCIe, SPI, and MDIO.
Preferred Qualifications
- Linux kernel device driver development experience.
- Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 network protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP.
- Experience with Networking ASICs and PHY testing.
- Experience with testing SSD, USB, NVRAM, or eMMC.
- Experience with troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Familiarity with secure-boot, open-source tools, CMIS, and SFF standards (SFP, QSFP).
- Experience with software quality processes.
- Experience supporting mass production test.

Cisco offers competitive compensation, including a starting salary range of $186,900.00 to $267,700.00, subject to location and individual performance. Employees may also receive grants of Cisco restricted stock units, paid time off, and optional vacation days. For quota-based sales roles, incentive compensation is included in the base pay range.
Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $186,900.00 to $267,700.00, reflecting the projected salary range for new hires in U.S. and Canadian locations. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location, market conditions, and job-related skillset.
