Software Engineering Manager - Payments

About the role

Squarespace Payments is dedicated to simplifying the financial side of commerce, enabling merchants to securely and reliably collect payments from their customers with minimal effort. As Engineering Manager for the Payments team, you will lead a talented group of engineers in building and scaling the infrastructure that powers Squarespace's payment ecosystem. You will drive delivery against key company and department goals, ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements, and provide the technical leadership needed to push critical initiatives forward. This high-visibility role partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Design, and Operations to set technical direction while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The role reports directly to the Engineering Director for the Financial Solutions Group and is a hybrid position located in our New York office.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering team that builds payments products.
• Work with experienced Product Managers and Designers to create product strategies that impact hundreds of thousands of businesses and their customers.
• Shape the organization, processes, and culture of Squarespace’s commerce platform alongside world-class managers and directors.
• Mentor engineers to develop their skills and expertise in software development and payments products.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders to maintain product compliance.
• Scale up teams and organizations.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in the software industry.
• 3+ years of experience launching payments products.
• Experience developing and launching FinTech products and infrastructures.
• Experience coaching engineers with diverse specialties.
• Experience working with Adyen and Stripe platforms (a huge plus).

Pay

Cash compensation range: $185,500 – $299,000 USD. The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors. In addition to cash compensation, employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase common stock.
