Software Engineering Manager, Cloud Applications
About the role
ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy. In this role, you will oversee the design, development, and maintenance of our public website, SSO, and enterprise platform applications. You will manage a team of talented software engineers, ensuring successful project delivery on time and within budget. Responsibilities
- Architect and design solutions using AWS Services (EKS, IAM, ECS, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
- Lead engineering teams to build high-quality and resilient web applications using Java, SQL, and front-end technologies following Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
- Guide DevOps engineers in building state-of-the-art CI/CD pipelines, automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment.
- Develop end-to-end monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for proactive system health monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Lead a 24/7 on-call rotation to support mission-critical applications in production.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure service reliability.
- Ensure applications are supportable by all team members, avoiding concentration of key technical expertise.
- Keep the team’s skills current to address Digital Transformation challenges.
- Promote core IT tenets and lead by example.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding production issues and resolutions.
- Increase end-user satisfaction by monitoring quality and building relationships with key customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of software development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS services (e.g., EKS, IAM, S3, ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB).
- 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
- Ability to work outside standard business hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a DevOps environment.
- AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer).

Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $168,000 - $199,000 per year, with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
