About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team building LangSmith, our observability and evaluation platform for LLM applications. This role involves:

  • Defining the technical direction for LangSmith
  • Growing and mentoring a high-performing engineering team
  • Partnering with product and design teams to deliver key initiatives
  • Maintaining a high bar for technical excellence
  • Leading by example in writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Engaging directly with customers to understand their needs and improve the product

Responsibilities

As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Building, mentoring, and growing a high-performing team of engineers
  • Fostering collaboration, ownership, and accountability within the team
  • Shaping long-term technical direction and ensuring scalability and reliability of LangSmith AI Observability Platform
  • Partnering with product and design teams to define scope, sequence, and success criteria for key initiatives
  • Maintaining a high bar for technical excellence while moving with urgency and focus
  • Engaging directly with customers to understand their needs and translate them into actionable product improvements

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Experience managing or tech-leading teams delivering complex full-stack products
  • A strong technical background in Go/Python and React/Typescript
  • A solid understanding of databases (Postgres, Redis, and ClickHouse)
  • A proven ability to design high-throughput data-intensive systems
  • A bias towards shipping quickly and learning from customers
  • Strong communication skills—able to collaborate with internal stakeholders and engage directly with customers

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience building AI/LLM-powered applications, developer tools, or observability platforms

Skills

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Technical leadership skills
  • Experience with AI/ML observability and evaluation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
