About the role

The primary role of a Software Engineer is to apply principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of software and systems that enable computers to function effectively. This position involves researching, designing, developing, and testing operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for various applications, including medical, industrial, military, communications, aerospace, business, scientific, and general computing.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve modifications to existing databases and database management systems.
  • Instruct staff to write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify database identifiers to management systems.
  • Direct database development and approve project scope and limitations.
  • Review project requests to estimate time and cost required to meet database user needs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
  • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and system improvements.
  • Develop standards and guidelines to guide software use and acquisition while protecting sensitive information.

Key Projects / Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • C++ engineering with a focus on data systems.
  • Proficiency in C++, async programming, and pointers.
  • Alignment with distributed systems, backend development, scaling, and horizontal scaling.
  • Understanding of hypervisor settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, customer service orientation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Expert ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Proven mentoring skills to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, including business/systems analysis, requirements gathering, functional specification authoring, development, testing, and delivery.
  • Expert troubleshooting skills to resolve system issues and implement necessary changes.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with computer development software, such as SQL and VisualBasic.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Experience in natural language processing (NLP).

Pay

$85 - $95/hour on W2
