Software Engineer - Systems Engineering AI Tooling
About the role
The Systems Engineering Tools & Traceability Engineer will help build the internal platforms and workflows that support development and validation for autonomous vehicle programs at Applied Intuition. You’ll develop scalable backend systems and tooling that connect requirements, modeling, validation, and test data into a unified engineering platform. This role sits at the intersection of backend infrastructure, systems engineering, and safety-critical development. You’ll work closely with autonomy, safety, and systems engineering teams to improve traceability, automate workflows, and support reliable, production-grade engineering processes across vehicle programs.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and productionize scalable internal tools and AI workflows that support system engineering and validation for autonomous vehicle programs.
- Integrate data across requirements management, modeling, and validation tools to provide end-to-end traceability from system requirements to test results.
- Build backend services and APIs to unify distributed engineering artifacts into a cohesive, reliable platform.
- Develop dashboards and KPIs to measure requirement coverage, trace completeness, and validation progress.
- Own and evolve the core traceability data model, enabling bidirectional traceability, versioning, baselining, and change impact analysis.
- Refactor internal prototypes into production-grade, certifiable systems with strong reliability, access control, and auditability.
- Collaborate closely with systems engineering, safety, and autonomy teams to ensure tooling supports compliance and safety case development.
- Scale internal tooling to support production programs and future regulatory needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of professional experience in backend software development, internal tooling, or platform engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with Java or C/C++.
- Experience designing and building REST or GraphQL APIs.
- Experience with data modeling, schema design, and integrating systems via APIs.
- Experience building scalable backend services and working with CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong systems thinking and the ability to work across complex, cross-functional technical domains.

Pay
Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.
Schedule
We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments.
