About the role
We are seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to ensure product reliability for a cutting-edge drone platform. Your work will help accelerate wildlife conservation in wild places around the world with on-demand aerial intelligence. We work on the ground in Africa with global aspirations.
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Quality Architecture: Design overall QA strategy and testing framework across our entire software stack from embedded flight controls to cloud-based data analysis.
- Field Validation: Lead hands-on flight testing at least 3 days a week to validate performance in real-world environments.
- Automation & HITL Infrastructure: Architect automated test pipelines and evaluation tooling to streamline release cycles; expand our existing simulation infrastructure to hardware-in-the-loop (HITL).
- Telemetry & Failure Analysis: Analyze device telemetry and system logs to discover root causes, transforming real-world edge cases into actionable engineering requirements.
- Global Collaboration: Partner with our global team to establish a culture of technical excellence, safety, and continuous quality improvement.
- As we grow, your role will expand to include strategic project management.
Requirements
- Familiarity with developer tools like Git for version control, CLI for on-the-fly modifications, and continuous integration for releases.
- Knowledge of common QA patterns such as requirements, regression testing, canary releases, and gating criteria.
- Proficiency in Python/Typescript for writing automated test suites.
- Demonstrated experience building QA processes for safety-critical applications.
- Hands-on development experience with robotics products requiring tight integration between hardware and software.
- Experience bringing a product from development validation to production runs.
- A systems-level thinker who can collaborate with design and infrastructure engineers.
- Familiarity with Linux and system services.
- Willingness to work across continents and cultures with a tight-knit team.
- Become a licensed drone pilot to run high-frequency test flights (FAA Part 107).
- Able to work extended hours to meet aggressive program milestones.
- Creative, independent operator who can improvise and take ideas from zero to one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with real-time web technologies like QUIC and WebSockets.
- Understanding of issue management tools like Linear or Jira for writing, executing, and evaluating flight tickets.
