About the role
The Staff Software Engineer, Databases at PsiQuantum plays a pivotal role within the OS Core Team, working alongside engineers and scientists across electronics, system architecture, and validation disciplines. The primary responsibility is to develop and enhance the scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant control plane and operating system essential for managing large-scale photonic quantum computers. This role involves designing and implementing robust algorithms, controls, and software to ensure the quantum processors operate within specifications continuously. The engineer will focus on extending and scaling the core graph database system, which is central to controlling and managing the complex, heterogeneous fabric of co-processors, networks, and photonics. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the foundational software infrastructure that powers quantum computing at a scale never achieved before, impacting PsiQuantum’s mission to make quantum computing practical and accessible.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable graph database systems critical for quantum system control
- Extend existing core database architecture to support increased system complexity and size
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and collaborative development processes across multidisciplinary teams
- Implement algorithms and controls to ensure quantum processors operate within specified parameters continuously
- Test, validate, and maintain database software to ensure high reliability and performance
- Champion best practices in software development, including documentation, testing, and version control
- Collaborate with hardware, research, and software teams to optimize system integration and performance
- Stay current with emerging technologies and incorporate innovative solutions into the system architecture
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience with Python or C++ in a system software environment
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing large-scale distributed storage systems, with a focus on graph databases
- Proven track record of developing and deploying reliable, high-performance software in mission-critical environments
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field) or equivalent professional experience
- Experience with graph database systems such as Nebula, Neo4j, or Gravlax (preferred)
- Knowledge of high-performance computing and data architecture
- Understanding of computer architecture and high-performance networking
- Experience working with highly scalable, reliable distributed systems with strict uptime requirements
- PhD in a relevant technical discipline is a plus but not mandatory
