This on-site position supports our Research & Advanced Design Division in El Segundo or Rancho Bernardo, CA, developing new autonomy solutions and maintaining in-house software for advanced Mission Management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Implement user interfaces from design mockups using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Develop and maintain reusable front-end components and UI patterns.
  • Ensure responsive layouts and cross-browser compatibility across desktop and mobile devices.
  • Integrate front-end features with backend APIs (REST/GraphQL), including error handling and loading states.
  • Collaborate with designers to refine UI/UX and ensure consistency with the design system.
  • Debug and fix front-end issues related to layout, styling, and functionality.
  • Write clean, well-structured, and well-documented code following team standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, incorporating feedback to improve code quality.
  • Perform basic testing of implemented features (unit/component tests and manual verification).
  • Apply accessibility and performance best practices to user-facing features.
  • Work closely with product, backend, and QA teams to clarify requirements and deliver features on time.
  • Continuously learn and adopt new front-end tools, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Meet milestones and deadlines by providing best-in-class solutions.
  • Adhere to and follow roadmaps, plans, and schedules.
  • Work closely with the software lead and follow their guidance.
  • Work independently and identify solutions to complex problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and:
    • 2 years of related engineering experience (Software Engineer level), OR
    • 5 years of related engineering experience (Principal Software Engineer level).
  • Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and:
    • 0 years of related engineering experience (Software Engineer level), OR
    • 3 years of related engineering experience (Principal Software Engineer level).
  • PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience (Principal Software Engineer level).
  • Active US Government clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Experience with Agile principles, processes, and tools.
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Angular, or similar.
  • Experience developing applications on a Linux/Unix operating system.
  • Experience in designing user interfaces with a focus on human-computer interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present to program management and customers.
  • Ability to effectively write technical documentation.
  • Experience sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a collaborative environment.
  • Significant experience developing object-oriented applications in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or Angular.
  • Significant experience developing applications on Linux/Unix operating systems, including proficiency with OS commands and shell scripting.
  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Top Secret clearance.

Pay

  • Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00.
  • Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00.

The above salary ranges represent general guidelines. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
