About the role

The organization operates in the software infrastructure industry, focusing on enabling intelligent software to run efficiently and securely in production environments. It addresses the challenge of safely executing AI agents in real-world settings by developing runtime infrastructure that is fast, durable, and secure by default. The team is small, globally distributed, and supported by forward-thinking investors.

The Software Engineer - Platform (Senior/Staff) will lead the design and scaling of core runtime architecture critical for the safe and reliable execution of AI agents. This role involves end-to-end ownership of platform development, including low-level runtime design, distributed scheduling, and production reliability, directly impacting the foundation that allows intelligent systems to operate effectively in real-world applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build agent runtime infrastructure using technologies such as Firecracker, Rust, and Go
  • Define and enforce security boundaries for executing untrusted code
  • Architect and implement scheduling and orchestration systems addressing large-scale challenges
  • Develop a global-scale distributed systems architecture across regions and server providers
  • Own performance, isolation, and reliability at scale
  • Set technical direction and elevate engineering standards across the organization

Requirements

  • Experience building and operating distributed systems or infrastructure at scale
  • Strong background in systems concepts including concurrency, isolation, networking, and performance
  • Proficiency or willingness to rapidly develop skills in Go and/or Rust
  • Deep understanding of security and reliability principles
  • Focus on failure modes as well as system functionality
  • Experience progressing systems from initial stages to scaled production
  • Ability to make significant architectural decisions with incomplete information
  • Bonus qualifications:
    • Experience with Firecracker, microVMs, containers, or sandboxing technologies
    • Experience with Kubernetes or scheduler development
    • Expertise in optimizing I/O latency and throughput for data-intensive applications
