Software Engineer, Platform
About Abode Money
Abode Money is the first-ever AI financial home manager, using AI to save homeowners on property taxes, insurance, mortgage and more. Homeowners spend $2T+ per year on their home. Not only is it difficult to buy a home today, but it’s become just as challenging to continue owning your home. We’re going to be the first to create a relationship with 80M+ homeowners in the US by saving them money year after year. We’ve raised $23M from Permanent Capital, Drive Capital, Sequoia, Core VC and The 81 Collection.
The Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer who is highly autonomous, reliable, cool under pressure and deeply capable - the person people trust with the hard problems. You’ll own major product and system areas end-to-end, from architecture to production reliability. You’ll work closely with the founders to build the infrastructure that powers Abode Money. This is a high-autonomy role for those that do their best work when given space, responsibility, and trust.
What You’ll Do
- Own and Build Core Systems: Build systems across property tax, insurance, mortgage optimization, and more.
- Design for Scale: Design, implement, and maintain workflows and services that must be resilient and scalable.
- Structure the Messy: Break down messy real-world constraints into well-structured engineering solutions.
- Balance Speed and Quality: Move with both speed and quality, knowing when each matters most and how to balance the two.
- Make Smart Tradeoffs: Make tradeoffs when perfection isn't possible, choosing between speed, reliability, and effort.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with product, design, and operations to turn pain points into delightful user experiences.
Who You Are
- You are the engineer people go to when something really matters.
- You take pride in your work - even small things (“How you do anything is how you do everything.”)
- You are steady under pressure and bring structure to uncertainty.
- You deliver consistently, with a blend of reliability, speed, and clear judgment.
- You value autonomy and ownership, and you use both responsibly.
- You assess trade-offs realistically, making difficult calls with maturity and context.
- You are genuinely excited about AI - you actively use AI tools and dig into new workflows.
- You are low-ego and high-responsibility. Your work - not your volume - builds your reputation.
- You collaborate clearly and respectfully, raising the bar for the team around you.
Basic Qualifications
- You’re in Austin or willing to relocate. We're in person 4 days a week.
- 2+ years of engineering experience in high-ownership environments.
- Experience owning systems end-to-end (architecture → implementation → production).
- Strong foundation in backend or full-stack development with modern languages and cloud infrastructure.
- Exact stack experience is flexible; strong engineers ramp quickly.
- Ability to ship production features independently with high reliability.
- A genuine enthusiasm for using and mastering modern AI tools and workflows.
Our Core Values
- The biggest thing we pride ourselves on is autonomy. You can’t move fast through committee decision-making, so we hire people who want to own workstreams outright.
- Take ownership. This is yours. We build everything through single-threaded autonomy. One person owns the outcome, makes the calls, and sees it through.
- We believe in “asking for forgiveness, not permission” so you can make unencumbered decisions.
- Move fast. Decide. Ship. Learn. Repeat. Speed is our edge. Perfection is the enemy of momentum. We will forever move faster than our competition.
- Be resourceful. Find ways to do more with less. Constraints don’t slow us down. They make us inventive. There’s always a way through, and the people who own their work find it.
- “That’s not my job” isn’t a sentence anyone here finishes. Think big and challenge convention. Dare to do things differently. You don’t change the world with incrementally better solutions.
- Measure everything. Data is the tiebreaker. We turn instincts into evidence, hunches into experiments, and opinions into numbers. If we can measure it, we can beat it.
