Software Engineer, Perception Attributes Auto-Labeling Pipeline

About the role

HireArt is partnering with an autonomous ride-hailing company to find a Software Engineer, Perception Attributes Auto-Labeling Pipeline. This role involves developing and operating auto-labeling pipelines that enhance data annotation efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain auto-labeling pipelines that ingest annotation tasks, dispatch requests to foundation model APIs, process structured outputs, and return pre-labels to labeling workflows.
• Build scalable backend services and data processing workflows that support high-volume annotation and machine learning operations.
• Support machine learning experimentation by preparing datasets, executing evaluation workflows, and collecting outputs for analysis.
• Partner with perception, machine learning, and data infrastructure teams to integrate pipeline components with existing systems and services.
• Troubleshoot pipeline issues, optimize system performance, and improve operational reliability.
• Create runbooks and operational documentation to ensure successful knowledge transfer and ongoing support.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in backend software engineering, data engineering, or data pipeline development.
• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with C++.
• Experience processing large datasets using PySpark or similar distributed data processing frameworks.
• Understanding of machine learning fundamentals, including model inference, embeddings, structured outputs, and common evaluation metrics like precision and recall.
• Experience integrating foundation model APIs such as Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar large language model platforms.
• Experience building, deploying, and supporting production-scale software systems.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written communication skills with experience creating technical documentation, design documents, and operational runbooks.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with Databricks or similar data engineering platforms.
• Experience supporting machine learning pipelines from data ingestion through inference and monitoring.
• Familiarity with annotation tooling or human-in-the-loop machine learning workflows.
• Experience supporting autonomous vehicle, robotics, or other large-scale perception data pipelines.
• Experience with AWS services, including S3, ECS, EKS, Lambda, or related cloud technologies.
• Experience collaborating closely with machine learning engineers in shared codebases and production environments.
