Software Engineer (Node.js, React.js)

About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the technical foundation of our next-generation transportation marketplace platform. You will collaborate closely with engineering leaders, product teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain scalable, resilient, cloud-native systems. Your expertise will drive long-term technical strategy, facilitate modernization efforts, and establish engineering standards that support rapid innovation and operational excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the architecture and engineering culture at uShip, working on complex distributed systems that impact millions of users worldwide.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building production software.
• Proven expertise in designing and operating distributed systems in cloud environments.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple teams or large-scale initiatives.
• Strong skills in system design, API development, and software architecture.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with modern development tools and cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, modernization of legacy systems, and developer tooling.
• Able to learn quickly and apply sound engineering principles in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver scalable, resilient cloud-native services that span multiple teams and business domains.
• Shape and execute the long-term technical strategy, balancing delivery, operational excellence, and pragmatism.
• Lead complex technical initiatives from concept through production, ensuring high quality and reliability.
• Drive modernization efforts, including migrating capabilities from legacy platforms to modern architectures.
• Create reusable frameworks, libraries, and developer tools to accelerate engineering productivity organization-wide.
• Conduct thoughtful design reviews, code reviews, and provide mentorship to elevate engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Security, Platform, and Data teams to make informed technical and business tradeoffs.
• Lead incident reviews and implement reliability improvements to strengthen platform stability over time.
