Software Engineer, ML Infrastructure

About the Role

Snap Inc is a technology company focused on improving the way people live and communicate through the camera. We operate Snapchat, a visual messaging app, and other digital services like Specs Inc., Bitmoji, and Saturn. Our Engineering teams build sophisticated products for hundreds of millions of daily users, prioritizing privacy and efficiency. We’re seeking a Software Engineer, ML Infrastructure, to scale our ML systems, optimize AI training and inference, and enhance Snapchat’s ranking and recommendation systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize infrastructure systems for machine learning workloads at scale, improving reliability and efficiency.
• Develop high-performance inference systems for fast and efficient AI model serving.
• Build scalable ML model training, evaluation, and inference systems in the cloud.
• Create comprehensive data management systems for data collection, labeling, processing, and evaluation.
• Work on state-of-the-art vector search algorithms to improve precision, recall, and scalability of retrieval systems.
• Collaborate with ML engineers to deploy cutting-edge models into production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., computer science) or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of post-Bachelor’s software development experience; or Master’s degree + 5+ years; or PhD + 2+ years.
• Experience building large-scale production machine learning systems, distributed systems, or big data processing.

Skills

• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, or C++.
• Proficiency in distributed systems and large-scale ML infrastructure components.
• Experience with big data processing frameworks (Spark, Flink, Ray).
• Proven ability to operate highly-available systems at scale.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on performance and scalability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s/PhD in a technical field or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience with ML training platforms or optimizing AI model inference.
• Familiarity with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe2, Spark ML, scikit-learn).

Pay

Compensation varies by location:

• Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $209,000–$313,000 annually.
• Zone B: $199,000–$297,000 annually.
• Zone C: $178,000–$266,000 annually.

This position includes equity in the form of RSUs.

Schedule

Snap practices a “default together” approach, requiring team members to work in an office 4+ days per week.
