About the Role
The Smart Agents group at GM is seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our remote team based in the United States. This role is integral to developing sophisticated simulation models that emulate road user behaviors for autonomous vehicle testing and training. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Simulation, Behaviors, Perception, and Safety Engineers, to build ML and Reinforcement Learning models that generate realistic scenarios involving vehicles, bikers, and pedestrians. Your expertise will directly impact the development of autonomous driving systems, including Autopilot and Lane Keep features, advancing GM’s vision of safer, smarter mobility solutions.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in robotics, machine learning, or latency-sensitive backend services
- Proficiency in modern C++ and Python programming languages
- Hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Strong background in building high-performance ML and system pipelines
- Experience with profiling CPU and GPU software, process scheduling, and prioritization
- Knowledge of simulation, robotics, or autonomous vehicle technologies preferred
- Demonstrated ability to deploy perception, prediction, or autonomous vehicle models in real-world environments
- Experience working with reinforcement learning and sequence prediction models
- Excellent software engineering skills and the ability to design scalable, fault-tolerant architectures
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Support development of ML and RL models, including training loop development and optimization
- Design and streamline ML infrastructure, metrics, and data pipelines for efficient model deployment and testing
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation models into autonomous vehicle systems
- Accelerate project timelines by providing technical expertise in ML and system engineering
- Develop and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant architectures for simulation and ML deployment
- Profile and optimize CPU/GPU software to enhance system performance
- Contribute to the development of simulation scenarios that mimic real-world road user interactions
- Mentor junior team members and share best practices in ML engineering and software development
