About the role

Amazon LEO is launching a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. The Manufacturing Software Engineering (MSE) team is responsible for delivering software that runs on custom hardware to manage satellite manufacturing. This role involves developing device software, TCP communications, and system-level programming in C/C++/Rust, along with leveraging foundational AWS cloud services such as IAM, Lambdas, Step Functions, and CloudWatch.

The candidate will participate in all phases of software development—from requirements through implementation, testing, and operations—while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to design and deploy solutions. Responsiveness, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in an open, collaborative environment are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement system architecture for a manufacturing development and test lab.
  • Partner with device software, frontend, networking, and security engineering teams to build scalable lab infrastructure.
  • Scale production implementations to support global deployments to manufacturing and contract manufacturer (CM) sites.
  • Develop low-latency, highly scalable architectures critical to delivering high-quality internet service to customers.
  • Engage in low-level software development on custom hardware, including system-level programming activities.
  • Lead efforts with cross-functional teams from requirements gathering to deployment.
  • Participate in the design, integration, and improvement of software systems.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship experience in designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) new and existing systems.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (Green Card holder) due to applicable export control laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Pay

Base salary range: $143,700.00 – $194,400.00 USD annually (Bellevue, WA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
