Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR! We are seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our National Security Solutions team. In this role, you will contribute to high-impact projects supporting the Department of the Air Force, focusing on developing secure, scalable, and innovative software solutions in cloud environments. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and other cloud-native technologies. Your responsibilities will include converting legacy applications to containerized formats, developing ETL workflows, and ensuring systems are CVE-free through security scans and mitigations. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple technology stacks, collaborate on mission-critical projects, and apply DevSecOps principles to enhance system security and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Active DoD Secret security clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in software development
- Advanced experience containerizing applications for web deployment
- Proficiency with Kubernetes and Docker containerization
- Experience designing and implementing end-to-end cluster and application lifecycles
- Hands-on experience with languages such as Python, Java, C++, and Go
- Knowledge of database technologies including SQL and NoSQL (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle)
- Experience building or consuming REST APIs and working within microservice architectures
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like GitLab CI, Jenkins, ArgoCD
- Understanding of DevSecOps practices and security integration in software development
- Experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and infrastructure as code (IaC)
- Proficiency with logging, telemetry, and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Loki, Vector
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, and Python for automation
- Familiarity with Service Mesh technologies like Istio is a plus
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is preferred
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement secure, scalable containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker
- Convert legacy applications into containerized environments to support cloud deployment
- Create and maintain ETL processes for automated data workflows involving customer data
- Write new application code to handle containerization edge cases and security vulnerabilities
- Apply DevSecOps best practices to automate and secure the software delivery pipeline
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to design cloud-native solutions and architecture
- Implement GitOps principles for reliable and automated deployment processes
- Maintain containers by conducting CVE scans and applying necessary mitigations
- Develop scripts for routine security checks, deployment automation, and system monitoring
- Leverage AWS and other cloud services to ensure system scalability, reliability, and security
- Participate in Agile development cycles, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
- Aid in designing secure network configurations and cloud-based security architectures
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
- Maintain system performance and logs, utilizing analytics tools for optimization
- Stay current with emerging cloud technologies, security threats, and industry best practices
