Software Engineer Intern (C++)

About the role

The Real-Time Intern will work closely with the Real-Time Team to design, develop, and support the Exchange trading system. The team prioritizes system reliability, testability, recoverability, fault tolerance, throughput, and latency, measuring performance in nanoseconds. Engineers on the team have a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals and software engineering, and we are looking for like‑minded individuals to join us.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the software development team to contribute to projects integral to the business.
• Collaborate with experienced developers and fellow interns, gaining hands‑on experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting complex systems.
• Gain practical experience writing production‑quality code on a high‑throughput, low‑latency trading system within an Agile development environment.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science or a related field.
• Must be enrolled in a university or college program and not scheduled to graduate before December of the year in which the internship takes place.
• Candidates should be versatile, eager, and able to work in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive financial and technical environment.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with C++, or experience in another language with a strong desire to learn C++.
• Experience with Linux or UNIX‑like operating systems.
• Self‑directed and self‑motivated.

Skills

• Knowledge of at least one scripting language (Python preferred).
• Experience with SQL.
• Knowledge of network programming fundamentals.

Pay

The national new hire base pay range for this position in the United States is $22.00 – $42.00 per hour. This range represents the minimum and maximum base pay target for new hires working full time. Within the range, individual pay is determined by years of education completed. In addition to base pay, eligibility for the total rewards program may include benefits such as a 401(k) with a generous company match and paid sick time.

Schedule

The internship program runs from June to August, concluding with a final presentation and retreat.
