Software Engineer Intern ($3,000-$5,000/month + Equity) at Invariant AI

About the role

Invariant AI is a San Francisco startup building autonomous agents that automate regulatory compliance for the space industry. Having raised $1M with a $5M seed round opening in October, Invariant AI helps satellite operators navigate complex FCC, FAA, and ITAR filings, reducing weeks of paperwork to hours.

Join Invariant AI as a founding-caliber Software Engineer Intern in San Francisco. You will build production-grade agent workflows that draft regulatory submissions for space missions. Working directly with the founders and CTO, you'll ship Python-based services that handle sensitive aerospace data, bridging the gap between complex legal code and autonomous execution.

Why this role is remarkable: true founding‑team experience with real equity in a funded company, working directly alongside the founders and CTO; mission‑critical impact, shipping code that helps companies put hardware into orbit by automating thousands of pages of regulatory narrative; high‑velocity production environment where your work moves from customer feedback to deployed Python services within days, not months.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain autonomous agent workflows that read regulatory corpora to draft filings with citations resolved back to rule text.
  • Improve retrieval over large rule corpora using chunking, embeddings in pgvector, and reranking to ensure high‑accuracy outputs.
  • Develop production Python services using FastAPI and background workers, streaming progress into a Next.js interface for real‑time customer visibility.

Skills

  • Proficient in typed Python (async, mypy --strict) with experience building LLM‑based applications that have successfully survived real‑world user interaction.
  • Possesses enough statistical knowledge to differentiate performance improvements from noise on small evaluation sets while managing sensitive ITAR‑regulated material.

Pay

Salary $3,000‑$5,000/month + Equity

Schedule

Six‑month, full‑time, on‑site commitment in San Francisco starting September 2026. Must meet US residency requirements for ITAR compliance.
