About the role

The Software Engineer III leads the creation of comprehensive end-to-end detailed solutions for projects and platforms with overall accountability for the technical design and delivery of a specific technical solution based on requirements from stakeholders. Develops and maintains technical solutions, ensuring adherence to engineering and architectural design principles while meeting business requirements. Provides technical expertise with a focus on efficiency, reliability, scalability, and security; includes planning, evaluating, recommending, designing, operationalizing, and supporting solutions in compliance with enterprise and industry standards. Ultimately, providing expert advice and leadership in system/application administration, installation, configuration/provisioning, platform planning and design, integration, and release/deployment management.

Responsibilities

  • Executes on Engineering strategy as it relates to the introduction of tools and the automation of build, test, release, and configuration activities across Application, Platform, and Infrastructure.
  • Leads the creation of solution options and ultimately a comprehensive end-to-end solution, coordinating relevant stakeholders to support development initiatives; following a "build it, break it, fix it" mentality.
  • Is responsible for developing and documenting detailed solution design and acting as an application SME through the design and development lifecycle, ensuring alignment with Architecture.
  • Accountable for complex applications/systems development, programming/coding.
  • Develops functional, technical, and user interface designs for an application/system that meets defined requirements (business, enterprise architecture direction, system performance, and development standards).
  • Consults on development of requirements and specifications and applies functional knowledge of business functions to design optimal software/systems.
  • Reviews technical deliverables throughout the detailed design and development phase to ensure quality adherence and identify gaps or redesign requirements as needed.
  • Identifies, recommends, sources, negotiates, and implements improvements/solutions (buy/build/reuse) to enhance customer experience, availability, and/or reduce cost in support of client needs.
  • Works with Technology partners to define metrics and performance goals for the application.
  • Identifies and addresses application and data issues and cross-capability and cross-release issues that affect application integrity.
  • Researches/analyzes business requirements to evaluate and recommend optimal solutions within business technology architecture; collects environment requirements for infrastructure implementation by analyzing the current system environment, using technical tools and utilities.
  • Works with Architects to ensure that environment modifications interact appropriately, data conversion impacts are considered, and other areas of impact are addressed and meet performance requirements of the project.
  • Contributes to the advancement of the TD engineering practice through strong collaboration, research, analytic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to software engineering activities.
  • Ensures respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities.
  • Collaboratively engages with relevant stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external, to shift from finding defects to proactively preventing defects.
  • Actively seeks and supports continuous improvement and automation opportunities within the engineering practice.
  • Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, and assess the effectiveness of programs/policies/practices.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize cost, provides recommendations, and/or delivers corresponding strategic solutions to support cost-effectiveness and enhance stakeholder experience.
  • Conducts code reviews to ensure adherence to quality, standards compliance, reusability, and ease of maintenance, Operational Readiness Reviews, and supports gating and review sign-offs for solution design.
  • Monitors service, productivity, and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process/performance improvements where opportunities exist.
  • Leads/facilitates and/or implements actions/remediation plans to address performance/risk/governance issues.
  • Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions, and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and escalates non-standard, high-risk activities as necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts.
  • Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite.
  • Participates fully as a member of the team, supports a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation, and teamwork, and ensures timely communication of issues/points of interest.
  • Provides thought leadership and/or industry knowledge for quality engineering best practices and participates in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit.
  • Keeps current on emerging trends/developments and grows knowledge of the business, related tools, and techniques.
  • Participates in personal performance management and development activities, including cross-training within own team.
  • Keeps others informed and up-to-date about the status/progress of projects and/or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities.
  • Actively mentors and enables team members by sharing knowledge and leveraging engineering best practices.
  • Supports the team by providing guidance and proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Leads, motivates, and develops relationships with internal and external business partners/stakeholders to develop productive working relationships.

  • Acts as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank, both internally and/or externally.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, Post Graduate degree, or Technical Certificate.
  • Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering).
  • Graduate degree is a plus.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Expert knowledge of the business, the broader organization, technical environment, processes, procedures, tools, and other relevant technology areas (e.g., Architecture, Infrastructure, Security) from a design/support/solutions perspective.
  • Primary subject matter expert in multiple areas and consults with clients/project teams with respect to all aspects of research, analysis, design, hardware/software support.
  • Expert knowledge of specific domain or range of engineering frameworks, technology, tools, processes, and procedures, as well as organization issues.
  • Works independently and/or autonomously as a senior/lead on a diverse range of tasks/operational support of solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong full-stack expertise: Python, modern frontend frameworks, and backend service design, including API design, caching, data modeling, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience integrating APIs, including REST and GraphQL, and event-driven patterns; strong understanding of SQL versus NoSQL trade-offs.
  • Advanced CI/CD and DevOps practices: automated testing, release strategies, infrastructure-as-code, and environment management.
  • Security-first engineering: threat modeling, secure coding, identity/access patterns, secrets management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud infrastructure and scalable architecture patterns, including cloud-native services, containerization, infrastructure-as-code, resiliency patterns, observability, and secure enterprise deployment.
  • AI tooling fluency: practical experience with coding copilots/LLM agents and a vision for safe integration into enterprise workflows.
  • Core stack: TypeScript + Node.js backend; React frontend experience is a plus.
  • Experience in data management, data governance, data cataloging, or metadata platforms is a plus.
  • Hands-on familiarity or integration experience in data management, data governance, metadata, or catalog platforms, including DataHub, OpenMetadata, Collibra, or comparable solutions.
  • Practical knowledge of lineage and provenance concepts including OpenLineage, W3C PROV-oriented models, and automated lineage capture patterns preferred.
  • Practical experience or exposure to Elasticsearch or OpenSearch concepts, Kafka, or comparable message queue solutions.
  • Practical knowledge of security and compliance engineering concepts, including RBAC, ABAC, SSO/MFA, secrets management, audit logging, access governance, network controls, and secure configuration baselines.
  • Pandas experience for data analysis, profiling, transformation, or automation use cases is a plus.
  • Deep experience designing and operating solutions across Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud environments, including managed services, container platforms, and scalable infrastructure patterns.
  • Familiarity with responsible use of coding copilots or AI-assisted developer workflows.
