About the role
As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle from coding to deployment and maintenance. You will apply cloud-native architecture principles and integrate AI/ML technologies to build innovative solutions that enhance engineering productivity and system resilience.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions and services using modern programming languages and engineering practices.
- Contribute to the delivery of features, applications, and AI/ML-enabled solutions that support business and platform goals.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Participate in solution design discussions and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable software components.
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software functionality and development productivity.
- Troubleshoot software issues, analyze system behavior, and contribute to root-cause identification and resolution.
- Develop automation tools and utilities that improve engineering efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Support code reviews, testing, deployment, and CI/CD processes to ensure software quality and reliability.
- Monitor application performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Document technical solutions, best practices, and implementation approaches while sharing knowledge with team members.
What you'll bring
- Strong experience in object-oriented programming, software design principles, and modern development practices.
- Proficiency in Java, Python, or similar programming languages with experience developing scalable applications and services.
- Understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native application development.
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities and leveraging Generative AI tools to enhance software solutions and engineering productivity.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex application and system issues.
- Experience developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining high-quality software with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or AWS), container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, application monitoring, and software lifecycle management.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Option 2: 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area.
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
- Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding using JAVA, GraphQL and BigQuery, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
- Experience conducting system design reviews ensuring alignment with architectural best practices and project goals.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
- Data-driven problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality, customer-centric software solutions.
