About GridPoint GridPoint is a private equity backed technology leader with a mission to accelerate the world's transition to a sustainable future by creating an intelligent energy network of grid-interactive buildings. Our technology platform harnesses the power and potential within a building to deliver energy, operational, and resiliency benefits — spanning Fortune 500 enterprises, utilities, government organizations, and small businesses. About The Role GridPoint is hiring a Software Engineer II for the Application Firmware team. You will work in Elixir on the firmware running our in-building energy controllers, the layer between our bare-metal firmware and the GridPoint cloud. The work varies. A device-side control feature one month, a telemetry pipeline the next, a field failure after that. The target does not vary: constrained hardware installed incustomer buildings, where memory, CPU, and network are all finite. Responsibilities Build and maintain features in our Elixir application firmware, from story to release Structure application services as OTP supervision trees with isolated, restartableprocesses Define and implement device control logic, scheduling, local data collection, andconfiguration Develop solutions that function within the memory, CPU, and storage limits of thetarget hardware Debug on real hardware: bench units, serial consoles, and logs from the field Maintain the interfaces to the GridPoint cloud for telemetry, control, and config sync Verify your own work on hardware before calling it ready to ship Work with stakeholders to define test plans and develop them alongside the solution Work with the Bare-Metal Firmware and Hardware teams on drivers, bring-up, andpower behavior Required Qualifications Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, orequivalent experience 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience Elixir, or strong functional programming experience and a record of picking up newlanguages Understanding of concurrent, fault-tolerant design: processes, message passing, supervision Enough embedded or systems background to design within hardware limits Comfortable debugging on physical devices, not only locally Git-based development and code review Preferred Production Elixir and OTP; Nerves or similar Enough C/C++ to read embedded firmware and work with the bare-metal team Device telemetry, OTA update, or fleet management MQTT, Wi-Fi, cellular, or LoRaWAN Control protocols such as Modbus and BACnet, over both serial and TCP Energy management, building automation, HVAC controls, or commercial IoT Working alongside hardware and QA through bring-up and validation What Success Looks Like Level II is where an engineer delivers a feature end to end without close supervision. The first year should look roughly like this. Milestone What we expect 3 months Shipping scoped features through normal review; at home in the codebase and on bench hardware 6 momths Owning a feature area from design through field validation; taking part in release validation and triage 12 months Turning vague requests into designs the team agrees on; mentoring newer engineers; trusted to judge release risk Annual Salary Range: $135,000 to $175,000
