Software Engineer I - Video Platform

Primary Responsibilities

• Contribute to real features from day one using AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code.
• Design, build, and maintain backend services supporting live video streaming and recording.
• Debug issues and make incremental improvements to existing systems.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews.
• Join the on-call rotation as a first responder after an onboarding and ramp-up period.

What You'll Do

As a Software Engineer 1 on SimpliSafe's Video team, you'll help build and operate cloud-based systems that power live streaming and video recording for SimpliSafe cameras. You'll work closely with senior engineers and product managers to design, build, and improve these services.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, completed or expected soon (or equivalent practical experience).
• A solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles.
• Exposure to at least one modern programming language through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
• Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git).
• Basic understanding of distributed systems concepts (e.g., APIs, asynchronous processing) gained through coursework or projects.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Curiosity, humility, and a genuine desire to continuously learn and grow.
• Comfort working collaboratively in a team environment and communicating clearly about work.
