About the role

Enlighten is seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems, working closely with other engineers to create solutions that meet client needs. You will work with modern tools and technologies, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field as part of a dynamic and collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Develop Java-based software capabilities with a strong focus on quality and testing.
• Integrate advanced AI agents (e.g., Claude Code, Google's Antigravity/Gemini) into daily software engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, complex codebase refactoring, and automated generation of unit/integration tests.
• Guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository application architectures, managing context and auditing code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Seamlessly transition between hands-on execution and team guidance, including mentorship and leadership.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in software development.
• Work in a fast-paced, small business environment with a hybrid schedule (average of 2 days per week in the San Antonio office).
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required; not required on day one).
• 9 years of experience in Software Engineering, including modern Java frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Guava).
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (7 years of relevant experience with a Master’s; or High School Diploma/equivalent with 13 years of relevant experience).
• Experience designing enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices architecture.
• Proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms and the Agile software lifecycle.
• Experience with Linux, configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven), and serving as a tech lead, mentor, or manager.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance.
• Proven use of AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Gemini) for daily engineering workflows, including multi-file implementation, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Experience with cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure), distributed databases, NoSQL databases, and full-text search engines (e.g., Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr).
• Scripting experience and familiarity with data lakes or warehouses.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise).

Pay

Anticipated salary range: $119,574 – $165,000. The final offer considers factors such as role function, internal equity, education, training, work experience, certifications, and key skills. Occasionally, roles may include additional non-recurrent compensation, discussed during the interview process.
