Software Engineer (Hybrid) - 29037

About the role

We are a cutting-edge technology company dedicated to developing innovative software solutions for our federal government clients. We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Create software solutions that meet the needs of our clients, working closely with other talented engineers.
• Work with modern tools and technologies, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
• Implement strict enterprise AI guardrails to ensure data privacy, sensitive data scrubbing, prompt injection defenses, and output validation to meet stringent security requirements.
• Develop foundational AI frameworks, including internal APIs, middleware, and routing layers that allow other systems to securely utilize AI capabilities.
• Build Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and a library of reusable 'skills' (function calling/tools) that enable AI models to safely interact with our internal databases, microservices, and external APIs.

Requirements

• Citizenship and position-appropriate security clearance required.
• 5+ years experience in Software Engineering, Modern Java Frameworks and Libraries (e.g. Spring, Guava).
• Bachelor’s degree in related field; 3 years relevant experience with a Master’s degree in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
• Experience in designing enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, Microservices architecture, Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms, and the agile software lifecycle.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and works well both independently and in a team setting.
• Experience with the Linux operating system, configuration management tools (e.g. Git, Nexus, Maven), and scripting experience is a plus.
• Prior experience or familiarity with our Big Data Platform is a plus.
• Experience with next-gen coding agents, Proven use of AI tools (Claude Code, Gemini) in daily engineering workflows, Agentic Feature Delivery, using autonomous agents for multi-file implementation, refactoring, and automated testing, Experience with NiFi, Kafka, AWS Infrastructure, and K8's, Experience in cloud based technologies (AWS, Azure), Experience in distributed databases, NoSQL databases, full text-search engines (e.g. Elasticsearch, Postgres, Trino), and Experience in web UI development and frameworks (e.g. Vue).

Qualifications

• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
• Flexibility to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1-2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office.

Skills

• Next-Gen Coding Agents: Proven use of AI tools (Claude Code, Gemini) in daily engineering workflows.
• Agentic Feature Delivery: Using autonomous agents for multi-file implementation, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Experience with NiFi, Kafka, AWS Infrastructure, and K8's.
• Experience in cloud based technologies (AWS, Azure).
• Experience in distributed databases, NoSQL databases, full text-search engines (e.g. Elasticsearch, Postgres, Trino).
• Scripting experience is a huge plus.
• Prior experience or familiarity with our Big Data Platform is a plus.
• Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Github Enterprise, etc.).
• Experience with Python and relevant frameworks (e.g. Flask).
• Experience with web UI development and frameworks (e.g. Vue).
• Experience building Docker images.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines.
