About the role

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our team. This role will be pivotal in designing, implementing, and optimizing the global service that delivers connectivity to our customers. The ideal candidate will work across areas of responsibility, including edge systems, cloud orchestration, and API development.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control systems for our ground station hardware, writing software that interacts with embedded systems and RF modems.
  • Architect and optimize data pipelines for efficient movement of data between ground stations and various end environments.
  • Ensure low-latency and high-throughput data distribution across different platforms, contributing to the development of Northwood’s SD-WAN capabilities.
  • Lead the design and architecture of distributed systems that orchestrate our global ground network across both cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Develop the entire stack design, focusing on inter-service communication protocols to ensure seamless integration and operation.
  • Design and build robust APIs for customer and internal interactions, developing intuitive front-end interfaces using modern web technologies.
  • Build a scalable data backend, integrating into ETL pipelines to make data more actionable.
  • Create comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions for software and infrastructure, ensuring continuous uptime and rapid issue resolution.
  • Transform our telemetry data into actionable insights, enabling predictive diagnostics to address issues before they arise; keep our customers informed about relevant operations in real time.
  • Design and implement software for production line bring-up and testing, automating testing procedures to ensure hardware and software reliability.
  • Create simulations that model satellite and network design, creating tools for testing and validating system performance.
  • Implement software that orchestrates our global antenna network and data plane, addressing basic telemetry needs.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of professional software development experience.
  • Completed bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, or other related major (soft requirement, explain any gaps).

Qualifications

  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in one or more of Rust, Golang, Haskell, C/C++, and open to other suitable languages for distributed systems and high-performance computing.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Skills

  • Experience with distributed systems and high-performance computing.
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Experience with cloud orchestration and distributed systems design.
  • Experience with API design and development.
  • Experience with data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Experience with simulation and orchestration software.
