Software Engineer (Game Engine / XR)
About Radar
Radar is the global leader in geolocation, with geofencing SDKs, maps APIs, and AI-enabled solutions for marketing, fraud, and operations teams. We're trusted by some of the world's best companies, from high-growth startups to the Fortune 500. We process over 1 billion API calls per day from hundreds of millions of devices and have raised $85.5M from world-class investors, including Accel and Insight Partners. We have a high-performance culture with ambitious and entrepreneurial teammates, recently named a top 10 best place to work in NYC by Crain's. Our new office is located in Flatiron, Manhattan, NYC.
About the Role
We're looking for Product Engineers to build features across multiple mobile stacks. Our SDKs are open-source (Android, iOS) and have been installed on over 100M devices worldwide, with steady-state traffic of 10,000 queries per second. You'll work on core mobile infrastructure using Kotlin, Objective-C, Swift, and wrapper SDKs for React Native, Flutter, and Capacitor, as well as our demo apps like "Waypoint," used internally and by customers to test the Radar SDK.
How We Work
Our engineering team consists of former technical co-founders or former Radar interns from schools like Waterloo and CMU. Engineers at Radar typically fit one of two molds: Staff-level expertise in one stack or "Multi-Stack" at any level. We emphasize shipping fast, talking to customers, and working in-person at our NYC HQ for efficiency. We plan work weekly in small groups using Linear, with all projects led by an Engineering lead, an executive, and a Go-to-Market lead. Our core value, "Walk a mile," encourages understanding customer needs and real-world testing of location services.
Responsibilities
- Work on core Radar mobile infrastructure built with Kotlin, Objective-C, Swift, and wrapper SDKs for React Native, Flutter, and Capacitor.
- Embody our "Walk a mile" value by walking around to QA and debug the Radar SDK.
- Push the limits of what is possible with location services on iOS and Android.
- Have your work run on hundreds of millions of devices.
- Talk to Radar customers and prospects, incorporate their feedback, and ensure their success.
Requirements
- Experience building mobile infrastructure.
- Do not think of yourself as solely an "iOS Engineer" or "Android Engineer."
- Interest in talking to customers or prospects and making them successful.
- Deep curiosity about how things work and tenacity to solve hard problems.
Nice to Have
- Former technical co-founder experience.
- Experience working on an SDK.
- Experience with indoor positioning.
- Experience with background location or network infrastructure, including Doze mode, Wake Locks, Background Execution Limits, App Standby Buckets, and Foreground Services.
- Experience with FusedLocationProvider, GeofencingClient, and Beacon monitoring and ranging.
The Stack
Our mobile stack includes Kotlin, Objective-C, and Swift, with thin cross-platform SDK wrappers for React Native, Capacitor, Flutter, and others. We sponsor OpenStreetMaps, MapLibre, and OpenAddresses.
How We Use AI
- Engineers choose their AI tools, with Claude and Codex being the most popular.
- We're actively building Claude skills, such as debugging HorizonDB, our geospatial database.
- All code changes are reviewed by an engineer knowledgeable in that area, with AI (Claude and Codex) also reviewing all PRs.
- Most engineers use AI daily or weekly, but we maintain high coding standards and recognize AI's risks.
Hiring Process
After an initial call with our Technical Recruiter, you'll complete several technical Zoom interviews: a code screen, coding round, and system design round. Successful candidates will be invited to our NYC HQ for a final round, meeting co-founders, non-engineering team members, and more of the Radar team.
