Software Engineer - Embedded Systems | Marine Autonomous Vehicle

About the role

We're looking for a senior embedded software engineer to maintain and advance the C-based control systems inside our autonomous ocean-profiling floats. You'll split time between maintaining existing float control software and driving new R&D development, working directly with hardware on the bench to build, test, and refine bare-metal C code running on ARM microcontrollers. Backfilling a recently departed senior engineer, this role also carries ownership of the decoder software that supports customer data delivery.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and advance C-based control systems for autonomous ocean-profiling floats
• Drive new R&D development while supporting existing float control software
• Build, test, and refine bare-metal C code running on ARM microcontrollers
• Own the decoder software that supports customer data delivery

Requirements

• Senior-level experience writing embedded C for resource-constrained, low-memory systems
• Direct experience programming ARM microcontrollers
• Working knowledge of Linux-based embedded systems
• Bare-metal/bootloader-level development experience (no OS) strongly preferred
• Comfortable working at the software-hardware boundary using schematics, datasheets, and lab equipment
• Java experience (used on shore-side software)

Nice to have

• Background in marine robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other harsh-environment engineering

Salary: $145,000 - $190,000 per year
