Software Engineer Co-Op - On-site

About the role

We are looking for a student to participate in a two-block co-op program from January 2027 to August 2027. Mindex is looking for a motivated Co-op Software Engineer to join our team and gain hands-on experience building, testing, and delivering software solutions in a collaborative Agile environment. This is a great opportunity for a student or early-career candidate who is excited to grow technical skills, learn from experienced engineers, and contribute to meaningful projects that have real business impact. In this role, you'll work alongside Scrum team members and stakeholders, build a stronger understanding of software development best practices, and gain exposure to modern tools and technologies — including the responsible use of AI to improve efficiency, quality, and innovation. You will gain hands-on experience working on meaningful software projects in a professional environment, exposure to Agile/Scrum practices and cross-functional teamwork, mentorship from experienced engineers, experience with modern development tools, testing practices, and AI-assisted technologies, and an opportunity to build real-world skills that will help prepare you for future software engineering roles.

Responsibilities

• Bring an AI-first mindset by using AI-assisted tools and technologies to improve productivity, accelerate problem-solving, enhance quality, automate routine tasks, and support innovation.
• Collaborate with Scrum team members and stakeholders to share deliverable status, provide feedback, and contribute to plans, designs, specifications, source code, test scripts, and documentation.
• Build a foundational understanding of debugging concepts and the tools used to troubleshoot software issues.
• Grow your technical knowledge with mentorship and guidance from more senior engineers.
• Develop an awareness of overall service architecture and contribute to basic functions in ways that avoid duplication across codebases and prevent interface-breaking changes.
• Understand and apply the importance of security in software design, development, and delivery.

Requirements

• Candidates must be based in the Rochester, NY area and available to work on-site at least three days per week, with a preference for five days per week, Monday through Friday, throughout the co-op experience.
• Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; Mindex is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
• Regular in-office participation provides valuable opportunities for mentorship, professional development, and collaboration.
• Physical conditions: prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; no heavy lifting expected; exertion of up to 10 lbs.
