About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Software Engineer/Architect to join our fully remote team. As a core member of our new Video Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in expanding and refining our video capabilities, including live streaming, post-game video processing, and highlight generation. This role involves leading the design, architecture, and development of end-to-end video pipeline systems that are scalable, resilient, and optimized for high performance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including mobile, web, machine learning, and infrastructure engineers—to drive strategic initiatives, improve user experiences, and support our platform’s growth. As a founding member of this new team, you will influence technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and help foster a collaborative and innovative team culture. Your expertise will ensure that millions of youth sports fans can always capture, watch, and share their favorite moments with ease and confidence.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience architecting and building scalable, high-performance video streaming pipelines in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
- Strong understanding of audio/video codecs, packaging principles, and streaming protocols such as MPEG, HLS, DASH, RTMP, SRT, and related technologies.
- Hands-on development experience with live and Video on Demand (VoD) workflows, ingest, transcoding, storage, and playback systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Golang, C++, Rust, Python, as well as higher-level languages like Node.js, Typescript, React, Kotlin, or Swift.
- Experience designing and integrating internal APIs and SDKs across various layers of the video stack.
- Proven leadership in mentoring, onboarding, and guiding engineering teams, with excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with mobile video broadcasting, adaptive streaming, and optimizing quality across diverse devices and network conditions.
- Experience working with video players and front-end development for web, iOS, and Android platforms.
- Knowledge of computer vision concepts, architectures, and tools is a plus.
- Understanding of video advertising systems and related workflows is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple technologies and foster collaborative teamwork.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for learning emerging technologies in the streaming space.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of scalable video streaming systems, including live ingestion, transcoding, storage, and playback modules.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enhance video features, ensuring high performance, reliability, and user satisfaction.
- Mentor and onboard engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Review code, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to best practices across the team.
- Develop and maintain internal SDKs, frameworks, and tooling to facilitate rapid feature development and integration.
- Design and implement real-time monitoring and operational tools to troubleshoot and optimize video workflows.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems, resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Influence the technical roadmap and strategic direction for video capabilities, aligning with business goals.
- Engage with mobile, web, and machine learning teams to drive innovative solutions and improve overall platform performance.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging video technologies, and best practices, sharing knowledge with the team.
